Entrance Information

Eligibility Requirements

The Applicant: Must be born after January 1, 1982, and must not be under full-time contract with a professional orchestra or band. Previous Grand Prize winners are ineligible.

Entrance Package Applicants must submit the following:

  • A completed application form.
  • A one-page resume detailing education and performance experience.
  • A non-refundable entry fee of $50.00, payable to: The Zellmer-Minnesota Orchestra Trombone Competition.
  • A CD of the literature specified under the Preliminary Audition Repertoire.

 

CD Specifications

The name, address, and phone number of the applicant must be included on the CD case, but nothing may be written on the CD itself. In addition, your audition CD:

  • must be postmarked by February 6, 2009, and late CD's will not be considered.
  • must be a CD playable on standard CD playing epuipment.
  • must not have any editing or splicing within an excerpt.
  • must not have any verbal announcements.
  • must not be enhanced with added reverberation, compression or expanding, etc.
  • will not be returned.

The use of high quality recording equipment is strongly recommended.

 

Judging

Three judges from the Minnesota Orchestra brass section will decide both the Preliminary and Final Rounds. Judging of the Preliminary Round will be completed without the judges knowing the identity of the contestants. Decisions will be based solely on the performances contained on the audition CDs. Judging of the Final Round will be based exclusively on Final Round performances. The judges reserve the right to not name a winner in this competition.
